Why Gracie Barra West Jordan?

After operating Gracie Barra School of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (GBSLC) for nearly three years, Professor Rodrigo and Coach Andrea felt it was time to expand their reach and bring Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to new communities in Utah. After some research, they discovered that the neighborhood of West Jordan, filled with families, lacked Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes for both children and adults.

Building up Gracie Barra West Jordan

“The moment I saw all that space, I could clearly visualize a huge mat with many students practicing BJJ in West Jordan.” – Professor Rodrigo.

So they reached out to Gracie Barra Headquarters and right away started on construction of the new school, excited about the community of West Jordan to have a Gracie Barra near them.  Of course, there were challenges along the way, late deliveries and bad weather to name a few.  But with the support of both Professor Rodrigo and Coach Andrea’s families, they got the job done, starting the warm and welcoming family environment from the beginning. 

A new BJJ school in Utah

Gracie Barra West Jordan was established in February 2022 with the aim of serving West Jordan and surrondings areas like South Jordan, Kearns, Taylorsville, Midvale and others, by providing not only Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes but also self-defense classes.

“I was so thrilled at opening day, even though it would be my second Gracie Barra school” – Coach Andrea.

Red Shield Founders and inauguration

The very first 30 students who signed up received the title of Red Shield Founders. Right after the inauguration, the number of students grew quickly. From the beginning, the school offered Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes for kids and adults, followed by women’s only BJJ and self-defense classes.
